Raced in the 1968 Indianapolis 500, and powered by a Pratt & Whitney turbine engine. Joe Leonard and Granatelli Racing captured the pole position in the #60 Lotus Turbine with a then-record speed of 171.559 mph. The “wedge” shape of the Lotus was designed by Maurice Phillippe had superior aerodynamics compared to the other cars of the day, and was a precursor to today’s standard winged design. One of the coolest cars to run at Indy.
